PURPOSE:To improve charge and discharge characteristics by constituting a negative electrode active material from a specified transition metal oxide whose crystal basic structure is changed when lithium ion is first chemically inserted, but never substantially changed during the following charge and discharge. CONSTITUTION:As the negative electrode active material of an nonaqueous secondary battery consisting of a positive electrode active material, the negative electrode active material, and an nonaqueous electrolyte containing a lithium salt, a negative electrode active material precursor before chemically inserting lithium ion which is its precursor is formed of a transition metal oxide containing 0.05-10wt.% of boron. Thus, a highly safe nonaqueous secondary battery having high charge and discharge capacity and excellent in cycle property can be provided. Examples of those containing no lithium in the above oxides include Co2V2O7, NiV2O6, and the like, and as those containing lithium, compounds containing at least one of the oxides represented by the formula I are preferably used. |
