There is disclosed a novel diaminostilbene series compound, a method for forming an image using the same, and a composition comprising the same. The diaminostilbene compound is represented by the following formula (I): wherein L<1> and L<2>, which are the same or different, each represent -OR<1> or -N-R<2>(R<3>), wherein the four substituents L<1> and L<2> have four or more substituents in total selected from substituents represented by the following formula (II); R<1> and R<2> each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, or an alkyl group having a substituent selected from substituents represented by the formula (II); R<3> represents an alkyl group or an alkyl group having a substituent selected from substituents represented by the formula (II); and M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an ammonium, or a pyridinium: formula (II) -SO3M, -OSO3M, -COOM, and -NR3X wherein X represents a halogen atom, R represents an alkyl group, and M has the same meaning as M in formula (I).
