A spreader guide apparatus includes an upper structure 10 mounted on a spreader 3 and having driving means comprising a pulley (11, Fig 2) and a rope 14 wound on the pulley, a lower structure 13 connected to the driving means eg to a free end of the rope 14, and adapted to be raised and lowered by the driving means, the lower structure 13 being provided with guides or flippers 15 and with clamp mechanisms (16, Figs 5, 6) for coupling a container thereon, an extendable link mechanism 17a, 17b being connected between the upper structure 10 and the lower structure 13. The apparatus may comprise a turnover means (35, Fig 13) comprising a motor (Fig 14), gear drive (Fig 15) or chain drive (Fig 16). Instead of rope 14 the guide apparatus drive means may be a chain (140, Fig 9). The links may be of equal length (170, Fig 9) with upper and lower links sliding in grooves (10a, 13a, Fig 9). The apparatus may be used for lifting containers. An apparatus using telescopic arms (Fig 10) instead of a link mechanism and rope is also disclosed. <IMAGE> |
