PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device having a uniform visual angle characteristic with small dependency of the contrast within a screen on visual angles and having high utilization efficiency of light, high brightness, high contrast and good display performance by constituting the device in such a manner that its orientation directions are concentrically circular-ringed or radial and that the centers of the torus or radiation exists respectively in the central part of divided liquid crystal oriented regions. CONSTITUTION:A region where a display electrode 3 and a counter electrode 11 face each other corresponds to one pixel part of the display. Oriented layers are formed respectively via the electrodes 3, 11, elements 4, 7, wirings 5, 6, etc., on the surfaces of both substrates 1, 2. Spacers are arranged between the TFT array substrate 1 and the counter substrate 2 to regulate the inter- substrate spacing. The oriented layers have the multidivided liquid crystal oriented regions. The orientation directions of the oriented layers in the respective multidivided liquid crystal oriented regions are concentrically circular-ringed or radial and the centers of the torus or radiation in the orientation directions exist in the central parts of the liquid crystal oriented regions. |
