OPTICAL FIBER ARRAY AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide the optical fiber array which has high coupling efficiency to an LD array and does not induce contamination of this LD array by out gases at the time of operation and its production. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber array has a fiber aligning block 1 and plural pieces of quartz optical fibers 2 which are fixed and arranged in this fiber aligning block 1 and, the front end working surfaces 2a of which project from the end face 1b of the fiber aligning block 1. The projecting lengths of the front end working surfaces 2a are the same length as the length of all the quartz optical fibers 2 and lens parts 2b are formed on the front end working surfaces 2a. In addition, metallic plating layers 4 are formed on all the surfaces exclusive of the front end working surfaces 2a.
