The electrically powered vehicle is of the type comprising wheels, an electric motor, at least one device for controlling the speed of rotation of the motor, connected to a control element, at least one rechargeable accumulator fitted with terminals and a transmission mechanism interposed between the motor and at least one wheel. It is characterised in that it comprises a braking device functionally connected to the device (22) for controlling the speed of rotation of the motor and comprising at least one component (30 to 33) mounted so as to rotate about an axis of a fixed part fastened to a frame (45-46) mounted so as to move between a retracted position in which the rotary element (30 to 33) is neutral when the control element (22) is in a situation corresponding either to maintaining a given speed of rotation or to an acceleration, and an active position in which the rotary element (30 to 33) is in contact with a rotary part (9b) of the vehicle when the control element (22) is in a situation which corresponds to a deceleration. <IMAGE>
