PURPOSE:To quickly and accurately measure the change in the modulus of elasticity, stiffness rate, volume elastic rate, Lame's parameter, Poisson ratio, vertical/horizontal internal friction, sound speed etc. under a wide range of extremely low temperature conditions. CONSTITUTION:A sample 3 consisting of various kinds of solid materials is mounted to a supersonic waveguide body 1 where recessed and projecting parts are formed on an outer-periphery surface and an ultrasonic pulse is discharged to both. With the ultrasonic waveguide body 1, one edge where the sample 3 is mounted is inserted into a cryostat 2 satisfying a wide range of low-temperature conditions, the other edge with a heater or a hot-water jacket 8 and a transmitter/receiver 9 is outside the cryostat 2, thus maintaining the state of normal temperatures. The ultrasonic pulse is discharged from the transmission circuit of a single-around unit 11 and then the change in the modulus of elasticity and internal friction is measured by performing operation processing of the propagation time and attenuation rate in the sample 3. Also, the sample 3 can be held and retained by a pair of ultrasonic waveguide bodies with a transmitter and a receiver and the pulse echo method can also be applied for measurement. |
