PURPOSE: To make marking of asphalt additives by including a mark of specific composition to additives, mixing it with asphalt etc., heating to a specific temp., dissolving part of the produced asphalt compound in a water-liquational solvent so as to extract the mark, and allowing the material to make color coupling using a diazo compound. CONSTITUTION: A mark is formed with compositions as per the expressions given beside the text, where R1 and R2 are hydrogen or 1-20 carbon atoms and R3 is alkyl radical having 1-8 carbon atoms. The obtained mark is included in asphalt additives, and its admixture with asphalt, etc., is processed at a temp. of 300 deg.F or more and is left cooling subsequently so that a hardened asphalt compound is formed. From this material, a sample is taken and dissolved in a water-liquational solvent, for example toluene, citrus solvent, etc. From the solution, the mark is extracted in an acidous water solution, and dark color coupling is generated through reaction of the mark with the diazo compound.
