The subject of the invention is a heat engine using atmospheric pressure as the driving pressure. This engine is characterised in that it operates on the following cycle: - intake of a fuel mixture (7) by expansion of a chamber (3) with moving wall (piston) (9) from its contracted position (1a), - combustion of the mixture (7) at constant volume of the chamber (3) and simultaneous and high-flowrate evacuation of the burnt gases (5) then closure of the evacuation means (8) immediately after the pressure drop (1b), - cooling of the residual gases in the chamber (3) with the pressure dropping below atmospheric pressure, this pressure acting on the outer face of the moving wall (9) and constituting the driving force developed, until the chamber (3) returns to the contracted position (1c). <IMAGE>
