PURPOSE:To provide a method and device for detecting the breakage of a power line insulator which can momentarily and surely specify an insulator itself short- circuited by flash to ground and be easily set without requiring any skill, and does not require readjustment of the setting position and correction of judgment standard regardless of series construction of transmission line, form and construction of steel tower, and state of accident CONSTITUTION:A device for detecting the breakage of a power line insulator is provided with optical sensors 15A-15F consisting of an optical fiber 2 fixed to one of a power line steel tower 10 and its arm metals 12A-12F in such a manner as allowing for at least a part of insulators 13A-14F suspended from the arm metals 12A-12F of the power line steel tower 10 to collect a flash generated in the insulators 13A-13F; a photoelectric converting device provided on the output end side of the optical fiber 2 to convert the output light of the optical fiber 2 into an electric signal; a device for differentiating the electric signal and shaping it to provide a pulse signal; an insulator identification code generating device for generating the identification code of the insulator 13A-13F generating the flash in reply to the pulse signal; and a signal transmitting means for transmitting the insulator identification code to a comprehensive monitor station. |
