A pneumatic safety tire comprises two bead portions (23), two sidewalls (24), a reinforced tread portion (32), a main cavity (20) and a matrix of subcavities (26, 36, 44, 46, 48, 50). Each subcavity in the first row is connected with the main cavity by a valving means (22) or alternatively, connected via an inflating pipe with a valve on a rim; when the number of rows of subcavities is greater than one, subcavities in the same column are connected by valving means. When a subcavity is punctured, for example by a nail (29), the main cavity and the other unpunctured subcavities are able to hold their inflation pressure and support a vehicle, thereby reducing the possibility of accidents.
|
