Optional drive of an electric hand drill using a battery-powered d.c. motor or a mains-powered electric motor (220 V). The object and the aim is to realise the advantages of battery operation and the advantages of mains operation in hand tools having a motor, in one appliance. Example: hand drill. The mains/battery hand drill combines, in a compact construction, the advantages of a high-speed, large-torque mains machine wih the flexibility of a battery machine. An important constructional feature of the machine is that one housing accommodates both a motor for the d.c. operation and a motor for the mains operation. The battery for the mains operation is located in the handle of the machine. The connection bush for the mains operation is located at the lower end of the handle. Using the operating switch of the machine, it is possible to start the battery operation with the d.c. motor or, when the mains cable is connected, the mains operation with the mains motor, as desired.
