Machine for driving in and withdrawing retaining-wall elements (e.g. of sheet piles) during the driving of trenches by means of an excavator. The basic construction includes a machine frame, a counterframe, and a driving beam, arranged in the machine frame, at each trench margin side to which the retaining-wall elements can be attached. The driving beams are single-function driving beams and have for the driving-beam travel a drive arrangement consisting of actuating drives which are arranged in the area of the ends of the driving beams and can be controlled for the driving-beam travel. The counterframe elements are free of the driving beams and are attached in the area of their ends to lifting and lowering drives and are also guided by these lifting and lowering drives, which can be controlled for the counterframe travel.
