Use of dihydrolipoic acid as ophthalmologic agent and for suppressing incompatibility reaction in the boundary region of implants with living body tissue

Use of dihydrolipoic acid (6,8-dimercaptooctanoic acid) as ophthalmologic agent, for example cataracts, retinopathy and retrolental fibroplasia, or for suppressing incompatibility reactions arising in the boundary region of implants and living body tissue. The pathological states arise owing to the action of reactive, especially oxygen-containing, free radicals on tissue, it being possible to use dihydrolipoic acid in prophylaxis or for treatment.
