METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PACKAGING CANS OR THE LIKE BY GROUPING TOGETHER USING BLANKS

Cans are grouped together in a single depth by means of blanks having one or two rows of cut-outs (D) and fold lines between said cut-outs. The cans are transported in one or two parallel rows and, while they are moving, the blanks are placed successively on the cans so that each blank sits over a batch of cans positioned in line with the cut-outs in the blank. The blank is pressed down so that the cut-outs clip onto the cans forming the batch and the cans are then pushed in line to bring the cut-outs closer together thereby folding the blank to form transverse reinforcing ribs between successive cans in the batch. Application particularly in packaging cylindrical metal cans for drinks.
