<p>A battery-operated thermal shaver (10) is provided which includes an impeller (72) for directing a stream of heated air to the line of contact between a razor blade (28) and the hair to be cut by the shaver. The impeller (72) is a fan located within an air chamber (70) of the shaver (10) which draws ambient air into the chamber (70) and directs it past a heating element (96) to raise the temperature of the air to 120-170 °F. The impeller (72) then exhausts the heated air through an exhaust port (36) and into proximity with the razor blade (28). The fan (72) is operated by a motor (106), having a drive shaft (108), which is protected against liquid penetration by a liquid barrier. The liquid barrier is a reservoir (92) formed in the base of the fan (72) for holding material immiscible in liquids. During operation, the drive shaft (108) of the motor (106) rotates the impeller (72) while encased withing the liquid barrier.</p> |
