The method and equipment permit of disinfecting or sterilizing and thoroughly cleansing surgical instruments (3) in a single operation, utilizing a liquid sterilizer (2) in which the instruments are immersed for a limited or an extended period, accordingly, and generating a turbulent flow in the liquid so as to produce a mechanical cleansing action on all internal and external surfaces of the instrument engulfed by the liquid (2) and exposed to the turbulence. Following disinfection, or full sterilization, a rinse is effected with clean water supplied to the equipment and rendered turbulent by the same methods as those adopted for the liquid sterilizer (2).
