<p>A fuel injection nozzle of the inwardly opening type has a sac volume (31) from which extends a first outlet orifice (32). The nozzle has a second outlet orifice (33) which has its entrance opening onto a seating surface (30). A valve member (18) is shaped to co-operate with the seating surface and means is provided to control the movement of the valve member away from the seating surface in two stages. In the first stage of movement the velocity of the fuel flowing between the seating surface and the valve member is such that the pressure at the entrance is insufficient to ensure discharge of fuel through the second orifice so that the fuel flows only through the first orifice. When the valve member moves through its second stage, fuel is discharged through the first and second orifices.</p> |
