The apparatus is used for the electrical discharge machining of workpieces, e.g. tools of polycrystalline diamond. It is based on a known apparatus with a rotationally drivable, disc-shaped electrode mounted on a base frame (10). So that electrical discharge cutting operations with a wire electrode (34) can also be carried out on the same apparatus, an attachment frame (20) easily transportable by means of a supporting arm (50) and having guide members (30-33, 36, 38) for the wire electrode (34) is provided. This attachment frame (20) is mounted on the drive spindle (12) of the disc-shaped electrode after the latter is removed and is secured above the drive spindle (12) to the base frame (10) by means of clamping levers (28) or the like at the location where a dressing tool can normally be fastened. The current is fed to the guide members (36, 38) of the wire electrode (34) via a ball bearing (44) put onto the current-carrying drive spindle (12) and via a cable connection (40, 42) to the wire guide members (36, 38). On account of the simple mechanical and electrical connection, the electrical discharge wire cutting device can be retrofitted. <IMAGE>
