<p>A device for use in laparoscopic surgical operations comprises a Veress needle assembly (10) including a Veress needle (11), and a pressure sensor (47) or an ultrasound sensor (16) operatively connected to the needle assembly for monitoring pressure. In using the device to insufflate or pressurize a patient's abdomen with carbon dioxide, the needle is connected to a pressure source upon the detection of a drop in pressure or in response to an ultrasonic image or other indication as to the locations of internal organs and tissues of the patient.</p> |
