Power supply device for operating a DC gas-discharge lamp

The known power supply devices for DC gas-discharge lamps are not able to provide the lamp, in all possible operating states, with the operating parameters, prescribed by the manufacturer, with high precision. The novel power supply device is intended to maintain the required operating parameters with high precision under all conditions and thereby to achieve for the lamps the longest possible service life and an emission which is as constant as possible. The problem is solved in essence in that the operating parameters of the lamp are constantly measured by suitable devices (2), (3) and (4), and in that a power supply unit (6) is controlled by linear and non-linear processing of these measured values in the devices (4) and (5) in such a way that the operating parameters correspond precisely to the preset specifications. The power supply device is particularly suitable for supplying DC gas-discharge lamps and other loads which require a specific characteristic which cannot be generated by conventional power supply units. <IMAGE>
