In a device for drying pneumatically conveyable wet material, e.g. paper sludge, a pulsating burner (6) is provided, the outlet nozzle (9) of which extends into a decoupling chamber (7) through its underside. Also provided is an afterburner (8) which is arranged flush with the pulsating burner (6), is flowed through by the material to be dried and the inlet nozzle (10) of which extends into the decoupling chamber (7) through its upper side and ends at a spacing above the outlet nozzle (9). Supply lines (12, 14) for the wet material and the combustion air open into the decoupling chamber (7). Connection lines (15, 16) for the supply of fuel to the burners (6, 8) are also provided. Pulsating burner (6), decoupling chamber (7) and afterburner (8) are located, surrounded by an annular space, in a housing (1) which is coupled to a flow-off line for smoke gas and a discharge line for the dry material. <IMAGE>
