Internal combustion engine in the form of a rotary engine

The fuel-powered engines currently in service operate using reciprocating pistons and a crankshaft and generally require inlet and exhaust valves. The intention is to replace this complex construction by a simple system and increase the power and efficiency. The new system comprises a housing in which a rotor with fixed bosses is centrally mounted. A plurality of rotating cylinders with corresponding cylinder bores and pistons are mounted around this rotor on fixed hollow shafts. The exhaust conduit, the air supply, the injection nozzle and the spark plug for the associated rotating cylinder are accommodated in the hollow shafts. When the rotor begins to move, the boss of the rotor in front of the rotating cylinder pushes one piston of the rotating cylinder into the cylinder bore and compresses the air contained in this cylinder. This is followed by ignition, and the piston is forced out of the cylinder barrel. Since the boss is now behind the centre line through the rotating cylinder and the rotor, the piston pushes the boss onwards and the rotary motion of the rotor is maintained.
