Video or audio disc protection - has adjacent discs interlocking at periphery to protect recording surface

The protection of the recording surface of video or audio discs against contamination or damage by handling is provided by interlocking peripheries. Two adjacent discs within a stack (1, 2) have the recording surfaces (3) facing each other. The discs are located on centre conical spigots (5). Magnetic actuators (4) are used to separate the discs to allow reading to occur. The peripheries are shaped such that the discs mate to provide a sealed space between the recording surfaces.
