The invention relates to reciprocating shears for the transverse cutting of profiled plates or plate profiles, the profiled plates or plate profiles having in cross-section at least one wall section - called "steep wall section" below - which is inclined by a maximum of 20 DEG to the reciprocating direction of the reciprocating shears. The reciprocating tool is divided into a top and bottom tool. To perform good shearing actions on the above profiled plate or plate profile, the top tool has recesses in the area of the steep wall sections. Top transverse-cutting blades are pivotably arranged in the recesses. The pivot centre of the top transverse-cutting blades lies on the shearing edge of a top blade and on the cutting edge of the top transverse-cutting blade.
