An ejector mechanism, in particular for automatic turning machines for square- or rectangular-section stock, is described in which a hammer element (16) hitting the free outer circumference end of the square-section remnant (4) essentially vertically is provided. The hammer element (16) is arranged on an ejector linkage (11) which is pivotably connected to a displacing mechanism (14) and at the same time is pivotably connected at the other end to an actuating piston. Owing to the fact that the hammer element (16) hits the outer end of the square-section remnant (4) in the vertical direction, the remnant (4) is removed from the receptacle of the chuck. <IMAGE>
