It is possible with the process to convert virtual addresses in a large, fine-grained and sparsely occupied address space into real addresses easily and quickly. The conversion is performed in several steps in which the reference from step to step is controlled by additionally stored information. A departure from the usual rigid step division can be made owing to this information, the "guard". Because of the guard, it is possible to jump individual steps, thus shortening the conversion process by jumping over intermediate steps or omitting them. |
