PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material forming an image excellent in heat stability and recording quality and excellent in coloring properties by providing a thermal coloring layer containing a dye precursor and a specific polymeric compd. on a support. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined amt. of a dye precursor and a predetermined amt. of a phenolic styrene copolymer containing a phenol component being a repeated unit represented by formula I and a styrene component represented by formula II (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group) and characterized by that the compositional ratio of the phenol component is 10-90mol% with respect to the total repeated unit constituting the copolymer are added to and mixed with an aq. soln. of a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol under stirring by a dispersing machine to prepare a coating soln. for a thermal recording layer. This coating soln. is applied to a support such as paper or a plastic film and dried to obtain a thermal recording material having the thermal recording layer. As a concrete example of the dye precursor, there is a triarylmethane compd. or a diphenylmethane compd. |
