PURPOSE:To obtain the compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing medicines, agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, etc., by treating a specific nitrogen- containing six-membered compound with the bodies of a microorganism having an ability to introduce a hydroxyl group at the 6-position of the compound, the treated product of the microorganism cell, etc. CONSTITUTION:A nitrogen-containing six-membered compound of formula I (R<1> is carboxyl, carbamoyl, cyano, formyl, 1-5C hydroxyalkyl, etc.; R<2> is H, carboxyl; A is C, N)(e.g. 3-cyanopyridine) is treated with the bodies of a microorganism or their treated products in an aqueous medium to obtain the objective 6-hydroxy nitrogen-containing six-membered compound (e.g. 6-hydroxy-3- cyanopyridine) useful as an important intermediate for the synthesis of medicines, agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, etc. The microorganism is prepared by culturing a microorganism (e.g. Comanonas acidovorans) having an ability for the introduction of a hydroxyl group at the 6-position of the compound of formula I chloronicotinic acid). |
