Substituted 4-aryl-2,5- dihydrofuran-2-ones and 4-aryl-1,5- dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-ones of the general formula <IMAGE> wherein each of R<1> and R<2>, which can be the same or different, represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl or acylamino group with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or a carbamoylmethyl group, each of R<3> and R<4>, which can be the same or different, represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R<5> represents a hydrogen atom, a dimethoxyphenyl group or an acylamino group of the general formula R<6>-CONH- (wherein R<6> represents an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms), and A represents an oxygen atom, an imino group, or an alkylamino group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and their physiologically acceptable acid addition salts, are characterised by beta -andrenolytic and blood pressure reducing action and can accordingly be used, e.g. as pharmaceutical compositions, for the treatment of angina pectoris, hypertonia and arrhythemia. |
