PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing optical fiber, capable of efficiently and readily providing an optical fiber mutually different in diameter or cross section of a core in both end parts. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing an optical fiber comprises the steps of preparing a vitrified perform for the first optical fiber having core and clad consisting of a quartz-based material; preparing the second optical fiber mutually different in diameter or cross section over the longitudinal direction by subjecting the clad of the preform for the first optical fiber to cutting machining; preparing a preform for the third optical fiber having nearly same outside diameter over the whole by drawing an arbitrary part of the preform for the second optical fiber while heating; and providing optical fiber having a core with different diameter or different form over the longitudinal direction by subjecting the preform for the third optical fiber to drawing processing.
