PURPOSE:To reduce a storage capacity of fonts by storing a common pattern obtained by extracting common parts of a plurality of character patterns and a pattern of a difference between the character patterns and the common pattern when a plurality of similar character patterns are stored. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of similar character patterns such as character patterns 1a-1c of 'I', '1', 'l' are obtained by synthesizing a common pattern 2 obtained by extracting common parts of these three patterns and different patterns 3a-3c obtained by extracting data of a difference between the patterns 1a-1c and the pattern 2. When the plurality of the similar patterns 1a-1c are stored, the pattern 2 extracted at the common parts of the patterns 1a-1c and the patterns 3a-3c of the patterns 1a-1c and the common pattern are stored. Thus, a storage capacity of fonts is reduced. |
