The process consists in adding water to a resin with high water absorptivity, such as a crosslinked product of isobutylene-maleic anhydride copolymer, leaving the resulting mixture at rest to form a hydrated gel, adding this hydrated gel to a rubber composition including, for example, a rubber modified with a silicone, and subjecting the resulting mixture to an expansion in conditions which are suitable for vulcanisation, as by press-moulding at a temperature of 120 to 180 DEG C, to obtain thus a cellular rubber which has a closed-cell structure which can be used in the form of a cosmetics pad. The addition of an azodicarbonamide in a variable ratio with the hydrated gel allows the size of the cells to be varied. Field of application: cosmetic articles.
