In a process for the prodn. of H2 and CO from a low mol. wt. hydrocarbon by contact with a fluidised bed of catalyst at elevated temp. in the presence of O2 or steam and O2, the fluidised bed is comprised of an admixture of (a) a particulate consisting of non-leachable barium hexa-aluminate solids of fluidisable particle dia. at 10-99.9 wt.% of the mixt.; and (b) a catalyst comprised from a carrier component composited with a metal component at 0.1-90 wt.% of the mixt.. The av. particle dia. of both the barium hexa-aluminate and catalyst particles is 30-150 microns, pref. 60-90 microns. The barium hexa-aluminate solids of the admixture are pref. precalcined at 1200-1700 deg.C. The barium hexa-aluminate is pref. present in the admixt. at 80-99.5% with the catalyst component at 0.5-20%. The metals component of the catalyst is selected from Ni, Pt and Ru. It is pref. Ni which is present in the catalyst component at 1-20 wt.%, pref. 5-10 wt.%. The catalyst component is pref. barium hexa-aluminate having an Al2O3:BaO mole ratio of 100:(1-16) composited with Ni. |
