In the back part (3) of a one-piece seat shell (1) there are provided arcuate incisions (9). The arcuate incisions in the back part (3) increase the flexibility of the shell. When the back part is loaded by a person leaning against the back part, the segments (11) bounded by the incisions (9) spread and protrude in imbricated fashion. The segments (11) pointing inwards in imbricated fashion improve the supporting action of the back part (3) in the region of the vertebral column. <IMAGE>
