Coolant for refrigerating machines or heat pumps

When CO2 is used as coolant (secondary refrigerant) for refrigerating machines or heat pumps with indirect evaporation, the corrosive or pollutant coolants which are commonly used can be replaced by carbon dioxide, CO2, which is inert and in small quantities is environment-friendly. Its use also enables significant energy savings to be achieved. Furthermore, refrigerant plants with direct evaporation can be converted in a technically and economically easy manner to indirect evaporation. Thus, not only is the replacement of the pollutant CFC refrigerants by environment-friendly but flammable and/or toxic refrigerants, for example ammonia, made possible using CO2 as carrier fluid; it is also possible to achieve significant advantages in terms of energy.
