Process for sintering iron oxide-containing materials on a sintering machine

A sintering mixture of iron-containing materials and solid fuel is sintered on a sintering machine; to reduce the amount of waste gas in the production of a good sinter, a part of the waste gas is recirculated as circulation gas after enrichment to an oxygen content of max. 24% by addition of gases richer in oxygen and, as residual gas, there is transferred out only that amount of waste gas which corresponds to the gas formed during the sintering process plus the gas added for enrichment plus the infiltrated air which has leaked in from outside minus the oxygen consumed. The circulation gas is divided into at least two substreams. One substream is enriched to a higher oxygen content and in the front part of the sintering machine is passed through the sintering mixture, and one substream having a lower oxygen content is passed into the back part.
