To repair the leak at a gas pipe 1 under gas pressure, a sheet-steel patch 7 must be welded to the gas pipe 1. Before the welding, the patch is provided with a small hole 6 in the centre and a cavity plug 3 is inserted through the hole 6 and the leak in the gas pipe 1. In addition, a hardenable, heat-resistant paste 9 or an adhesive cement is smeared between the patch 7 and the gas pipe 1. The patch is then pressed onto the gas pipe 1 by tightening the nut 8 of the cavity plug 3, as a result of which the leak is sealed. The patch 7 is then welded on tight. <IMAGE>
