A bucket tappet for a valve gear in internal combustion engines comprises a depression arranged in the base of the bucket tappet on the control cam side with an outside edge for mounting a replaceably arranged valve adjusting plate. In order to increase the strength of the bucket tappet in the area of its outside edge, it is proposed that the valve adjusting plate have at least one perforation or recess for replacement by means of a tool, and that the said perforation or recess be connected to a chamber defined by the base of the bucket tappet on the one hand and a section of the valve adjusting plate on the other for the application of a hook of the said tool gripping under the valve adjusting plate.
