In the paper layer system for the optional production of a postcard or of a letter, in which duplicates are always produced and additional copies can be produced if required, the verso sides of the address page and the text page of the postcard or letter are completely bonded after being written, in order to prevent damage, in particular, in a mechanically controlled post office sorting operation. The duplicate, retained by the sender, is so prepared that a pre-perforated filing margin can readily be produced. The letter can be opened by pulling the opening flap or, alternatively, by slitting open the letter with the use of an aperture provided for the purpose.
