Method for controlling undesired plants in cultivated and uncultivated land

There is described a method for controlling undesired plants in cultivated and uncultivated land by injuring the above-ground parts of plants. In this method, a finely divided blasting agent is applied using a sand-blasting machine to the above-ground parts of the undesired plants in such a way that these die off as a result of sufficient surface damage. There is further described a finely divided blasting agent for carrying out this method, characterised in that its small solid particles have a particle size of 100 to 3000 mu m and are sharp-edged, fissured on the surface and/or porous, and their inner or outer surfaces are coated with a phytotoxic agent. The invention can be employed particularly advantageously in controlling the growth on railway tracks. To do this, customary spraying trains, which are equipped with a sand-blasting machine, with a high operating speed of about 40 km/h can be employed. Additionally, phytotoxic agents can be used which do not show any independent phytotoxic herbicidal activity.
