A brake device with hydrostatic pressure boosting comprises a hydrostatic pressure source (5) with a hydrostatic pump (9) and a pressure vessel (10) connected to the hydrostatic pump (9), and a control valve (4), which is capable of adjusting the outlet pressure of the hydrostatic pressure source (5) to a hydrostatic pressure which is equal to the amount of brake operation, in order to deliver this. In the said brake device the hydrostatic pump (9) can be driven according to the consumption of hydrostatic pressure in a brake unit, an adequate hydrostatic pressure in the hydrostatic pressure source (5) thereby being reliably ensured. <IMAGE>
