A benzylhydrazone derivative represented by the general formula (I): [wherein X is CH SIMILAR OR<5> or N SIMILAR OR<5> (wherein R<5> is a C1-6alkyl group), Y is a C1-6alkoxy group, a C1-6alkylthio group, an unsubstituted amino group, or a mono- or di-substituted amino group having as the substituent(s) one or two C1-6alkyl groups, each of Z's is a halogen atom, a C1-6alkyl group or a halo-C1-6alkyl groups, m is zero or an integer of 1 to 4, R<1> is a hydrogen atom, a C1-6alkyl group or a halo-C1-6alkyl group, each of R<2>, R<3> and R<4> is a specific group] which is very effective against rice blast, cucumber downy mildew, barley powdery mildew, etc. at a low dosage; a process for producing said derivative; and an agricultural and horticultural fungicide containing said derivative as an active ingredient.
