The invention relates to a cover for a package of printed sheets, such as a periodical, the cover engaging around a front sheet and a rear sheet, and the front sheet and the rear sheet being connected to each other by adhesive tape, one of the two sheets overlapping the respective other sheet, and the sheets being connected by means of adhesive tape which is adhesive on one side and extends beyond the edge of one of the sheets, which edge overlaps the respective other sheet. The invention likewise relates to an apparatus for the production of covers for a package of sheets, such as periodicals, which are formed by a front sheet and a rear sheet connected to each other by means of adhesive tape, the apparatus comprising: a stock container for a stock of a web of front sheet material; a holder for a stock of a web of cover spine material; a table; a holder for a stock of adhesive tape; means for advancing the combined strip formed in this way; and cutting means for cutting the strip formed in this way in order to form covers. <IMAGE>
