In a method and a device for controlling active rear-axle kinematics for vehicles whose rear axle is steered by means of a control mechanism and is locked in a specific position XA by a locking unit when a fault report occurs, in the event of the active rear-axle kinematics failing, a continuous driving behaviour for the vehicle is achieved in that the locking of the rear axle is performed at a position of the rear axle which deviates by an amount DELTA X from the position X0 of the rear axle at which the fault report occurs, DELTA X being a function both of fixed parameters of the vehicle and of measured parameters of the state of movement of the vehicle.
