<p>Floating scum 3 is removed from a sewage treatment tank by first adjusting the liquid level in the tank to that of weir 4 and then directing the incoming liquid into a side chamber 14 from which it flows down concave plate 9 and horizontally across the tank to sweep the scum over weir 4. In Fig 1 the liquid level is normally well above weir 4 with plate 9 submerged and is lowered when scum is to be removed. In Fig 2 the level is normally below weir 4 and is raised to remove scum. Liquid normally enters the tank by duct 10 and leaves by a lower outlet (not shown). The liquid may be aerated to lift the scum. Levels are adjusted by valves in the various inlets and outlets. <IMAGE></p> |
