The invention relates to a method and an installation for drying a moving paper web 1 with infrared radiation. From a radiation source 3 at the side of the web 1 short-wave primary infrared radiation 15 is directed at the web, a proportion of which radiation is absorbed in the web where it evaporates moisture, but the greater part of which 16 is reflected from the web, being dispersed in various directions. According to the invention one or more flanges 4, 5 have been fitted at the sides of the radiation source 3, which are directed at a suitable oblique angle to the web 1 and which are heated up under the effect of the reflected radiation 16 and begin to emit secondary infrared radiation 17 at a higher wave length, which is directed at the web for further drying effect. The secondary radiation 17 preferably has a wavelength between 2.0 and 4 μ m, the absorption in the paper web being considerably greater than at the wavelengths 1.0 - 2.0 μ m typical of primary radiation. <IMAGE>
