PURPOSE: To provide a method for precisely cutting a fabric material while obtaining cleanly cut edges. CONSTITUTION: A reinforced woven fabric constituent for incorporation into a metal matrix composite is produced by the method comprising the steps of; placing a material (206) on a flat support surface (302); identifying one or more regions of the material to be cut; placing adhesive tapes (202, 204) on both sides of the material (206); squeezing the tape into the fabric at the cutting region using an appropriate tool; and then effecting the cutting of the taped material.
