PURPOSE: To provide a safe and novel immune agent which consists of the pure capsule polysaccharides formed by making the lipopolysaccharide contained therein nontoxic by a treatment with a deacylating agent and is useful for active immunity to a Klebsiella infection. CONSTITUTION: The polyvalent immune pharmaceutical prepn. consisting of a nontoxic serum type specific polysaccharide prepn. Namely, the refined capsule polysaccharide(CPS) derived from the bacteria of Klebsiella species are treated with the deacylating agent, such as potassium hydroxide, by which the nonexothermic immunogenic CPS pharmaceutical prepn. is obtd. The Klebsiella infectious disease may be prevented by using the immunogenic Klebsiella species CPS. The capsule polysaccharides are preferably refined from the clean matter in terms of culture of the Klebsiella cultured in a medium consisting of 1 to 5% pie cases S, F, 0.1 to 1% yeast extract and 1 to 10% maltose. The average mol.wt. of the capsule polysaccharide is preferably 1×10<6> dalton. The vaccine is nonorally medicated in order to increase the serum antibody level to the CPS.
