LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE:To obtain good optical responsiveness and stable optical characteristics by using oriented films having pretilt angles of a prescribed range with a nematic liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal cell consists of two sheets of substrates 601 and has electrodes 602 for driving the liquid crystal materials on the respective substrates 601. The liquid crystal material 603 is held between the substrates 601. The oriented films 604 are formed on the surface of which the electrodes 602 of two sheets of the substrates 601 are formed. The liquid crystal material 603 is injected between two sheets of the substrates 601. In such a manner, the liquid crystal cell has the oriented films 604 consisting of a polyimide system resin subjected to a treatment to provide the liquid crystal material 603 with uniaxial orientability between the electrodes 602 on the surfaces of the first and/or second substrate 601 and the liquid crystal material 603. The oriented films 604 are provided with the pretilt angle of the 1.6 to 3.1 deg. with the nematic liquid crystal.
